Another one from Taiwan that I found at 99 Ranch. A pretty good delivery system for some weird (to us) ingredients and the requisite funny use of English:
“Pestle Cereal has its origin in Taiwan. In Hakka culture, it is a kind of drink popular with the nobles, literati and olders [2 out of 3]. They treat their guests with Pestle Cereal as a delicacy of the highest grade. “Grind” is a verb standing for grinding. The main materials of Yu Shen Pestle Cereal include various kinds of natural materials, wheat, black sesame, etc. After being bake to a certain degree, those raw materials will be mixed with the green tea and then ground into a fine powder. For drinking, you may infuse the powder into boiling water.”
This stuff is more of a drink than what we would consider cereal. Kind of a mud of some pretty decent, unprocessed stuff. It tastes pretty much like what it is– some nutrients mixed into green tea. It would probably be better if you actually ate some good whole foods, but if you want some feel good nutrients with your morning tea, this will work. Also the package teaches you that “”Grind” is a verb standing for grinding” which is important.
The ingredients are “BlackBean, Brown Rice, Black Glutinous Rice, Job’s Tear, Pearl Rice, Oat, Buckwheat, Wheat Germ (Cereals Containing Gluten), Black Sesame, White Sesame, Pumpkin Seed, Green Tea, Gordon Euryale Seed, Yam, Tuckahoe, Gingko Nut (Nut Product), Chrysanthemum, Western Ginseng, Raw Ginger, Medlar, Chinese Caterpillar Fungus, Rock Sugar.” The package claims that it has no preservatives, no artificial flavors or colors, and obviously it’s vegan. I was kind of stoked to have some caterpillar fungus for breakfast.
One serving has 127 calories, 22.8 grams of carbs, 3 grams of protein, 2.6 grams of fat and 7.56 grams of dietary fiber.
